Description

Tie-on pocket inspired by the models worn between the 17th and 19th centuries in Europe and America, when women carried separate pockets tied at the waist and hidden beneath their garments. This piece reinterprets that historical structure as a contemporary mobile micro-territory, wearable either under or over clothing.

Made of linen and hand embroidered, the pocket ties at the waist with its fabric band. On the front, a two-headed wolf is stitched by hand — a unified, bifront figure. Across its body appears the phrase “sono vasta, contengo moltitudini” (I am large, i contain multitudes) a line by Walt Whitman from Song of Myself in the collection Leaves of Grass. The quotation introduces multiplicity as a natural condition of identity.

The two-headed wolf embodies a single, complex form. Each head turns in a different direction, evoking the duality between mind and intuition, reason and instinct. One body holding multiple orientations at once, suggesting the possibility of inhabiting several dimensions simultaneously while keeping them in relationship.

Historically, the tie-on pocket carried essential objects: keys, coins, needles, letters, small everyday tools. It functioned as a personal space, invisible from the outside yet central to domestic and relational life. Reintroduced today, it retains that function of safekeeping while adapting to contemporary objects and becoming both practical container and symbolic vessel. Suitable for daily use or worn visibly over a garment, it can hold personal items, notes, or small talismans.
