✦ My dreams are like you people’s waking hours

This work, inspired by Funes the Memorious by Jorge Luis Borges, evokes the complexity of mental pathways piling up in an obsessive flow.

The tuxedo placket, the threads branching like synapses, the modular repetition of chickpeas at the base, the clinking of glass vials marking time, and the embroidery of the passionflower — a labyrinth of petals and stamens whose fragrance envelops and disorients.

An immersion into the intricate mechanism of memory, poised between order and vertigo.

Description

Created in February 2021, these two layered hand embroideries, stitched together on the front placket of a tuxedo shirt (11×23 cm), are preserved inside a tin box (16×11×3.5 cm). The box is lined and filled with drawings, beads, and textile and vegetal fragments.

“My dreams are like you people’s waking hours” belongs to the series Emotional Archaeology, where each stitched fragment embodies an inner memory preserved in physical form. The creative process unfolds through found objects, timeworn fabrics, and autobiographical impressions. Every work is unique and unrepeatable, a singular trace of lived experience that becomes a vessel for both fragility and permanence.

The materials used are delicate and often one of a kind: vintage medical gauze, hand-drawn tracing papers, translucent fabrics, elements of glass, wood, and metal. Some are recycled, others altered by time. Each component is chosen for its tactile and evocative qualities, assembled in a way that preserves its original identity.

Every piece is shipped in custom packaging, protected by natural, plastic-free materials. It is intended to be kept in dry indoor spaces, away from direct sunlight and humidity. The embroidery can be machine-washed at 40°C with a natural detergent and no softener. Avoid opening the box too often and handle with care: the materials are fragile, meant to endure only if treated with attention.
