Maternal explores death as transformation. The title and embroidery are inspired by the grooves carved by bark beetles beneath tree bark—traces of a vital cycle where the end of a tree generates new forms of life.

Birth and dissolution intertwine in a continuous process: nothing disappears, everything regenerates. The box, covered with moss and bark, evokes a dry tree, a fragment of nature in metamorphosis. In its shape, the echo of a bird’s skeleton: a messenger of time, marking matter’s return to earth.

Description

Created in August 2019, this hand embroidery on a linen handkerchief (17×16 cm) is kept inside a tin container (17×16×12 cm), covered with natural elements and recycled household objects.

“Maternal” is part of the Emotional Archaeology series, where each stitched fragment embodies an inner memory preserved in physical form. The creative process begins with found objects, timeworn fabrics, and autobiographical impressions. Every piece is unique and unrepeatable.

The materials used are delicate and often one of a kind: vintage medical gauze, hand-drawn tissue papers, translucent fabrics, glass, wood, metal. Some are recycled, others altered over time. Each component is chosen for its tactile and evocative qualities, and assembled in a way that preserves its original identity.

Each work is shipped in a custom package, protected by natural materials and entirely plastic-free. It is meant to be stored indoors, away from direct sunlight and humidity. The embroidery can be machine-washed at 40°C with a natural detergent and no softener. Do not open the box frequently and handle with care: the materials are fragile and intended to last only if safeguarded attentively.
