Description

Wearable amulet made from the lid of a small glass jar, reworked into a hinged medallion. Beneath the glass appears the image of an armadillo, cut from the page of an old Zingarelli dictionary and hand embroidered. The piece can be worn as a brooch, pinned to a garment, or as a pendant, worn around the neck on a ribbon or a chain.

Opening the medallion allows for a close encounter with the armadillo, a contained and watchful presence. This animal is symbolically associated with protection and the definition of personal boundaries. Its natural armor suggests a measured form of defense. One that activates only when needed, without becoming rigid. In some shamanic and Native American traditions, the armadillo is seen as a guardian of thresholds. A guide that helps recognize where one’s own space ends and another’s begins, supporting a balanced relationship with the outside world.

On the back, a piece of vintage cotton lace is sewn in place, layered with a fragment of dictionary paper and the artist’s signature, hand embroidered on linen. The entire construction is carried out through manual gestures alone, without serial or industrial processes, making each talisman a unique piece.

Designed for everyday use, this amulet is compact, lightweight, and easy to carry—for example, pinned to the lapel of a jacket or tucked inside a fold of clothing. The act of opening it and observing it closely introduces a pause, a moment of centering and listening. Glass, metal, paper, and fabric—familiar, everyday materials, are transformed through embroidery and hand assembly into an object that speaks of conscious protection, attentiveness, and embodied presence.
